Upcoming Election Ballot Questions
Election Day is right around the corner! As November 2nd approaches, the Alliance urges you to vote No on Ballot Questions 1, 2, and 3. All three have the potential to negatively impact the state's revenue and thus all state-funded programs, including teen pregnancy prevention and teen parent programs. To support the social programs you believe in:
Vote No on Question 1 to prevent further increases to the budget deficit, which would lead to cuts to important healthcare services. The current alcohol sales tax brings in $110 million a year to the state of Massachusetts. The state faces an estimated $2 billion budget deficit in the next fiscal year as is. If Question 1 passes and the alcohol sales tax is repealed, the budget gap will grow even wider.
Vote No on Question 2 to protect the affordable housing law for young working families. As we all know, it’s expensive to live in Massachusetts. Without this law, almost no new affordable housing would be built in most communities across the Commonwealth.
Vote No on Question 3 to ensure that our communities have necessary funding for schools, police and fire protection, safe roads and bridges, clean water and quality health care. If the sales tax is repealed, our communities will lose $2.5 billion in annual revenue, equal to half of what the state gives to our schools every year.
If you are not currently registered to vote, you can request a voter registration form by mail (call 1-800-462-VOTE) or stop by any RMV branch to fill it out in person. No matter your political affiliation or stance on these issues, your right to vote is an important one. No matter how you vote, just vote!
And remember: you must register by October 13th to vote in the upcoming elections!
