Federal Grant for Supporting Pregnant & Parenting Teens and Women

The federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health has announced a new funding opportunity for "support for pregnant and parenting teens and women". This is a competitive grant and only states can apply (Community Based Organizations or any other non-state agency actor may not apply). Applications are due August 2, 2010. A total of $25 million is available for each of fiscal years 2010-2019. Up to 25 grants will be awarded in the amounts of $500,000 -$2,000,000.  This funding cannot supplant any existing state funding.

The funding may be used for establishing, maintaining or operating pregnant and parenting student support services at institutions of higher education, and/or at high schools and community service centers and/or improving services for pregnant women who are victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual assault and staking, and/or increasing public awareness and education for services outlined in the funding announcement.

This is an exciting opportunity for Massachusetts to ensure pregnant and parenting teens in the highest need communities have the supports they need to pursue their education. The Alliance will be strongly advocating that Massachusetts apply for this grant.
